KU students build new "green" residence in Rosedale

Students in the University of Kansas School of Architecture Studio 804 program hosted an open house at 3716 Springfield St. in Rosedale on Saturday, May 16. The students built the home during the past semester as a “hands-on” field experience.

The expectation is that the home will be certified LEED Platinum by the U.S. Green Building Council for its energy efficiency and use of environmentally-sustainable building materials and methods – one of only 287 homes with such a distinction in North America.

This year's Studio 804 residence is the fourth in six years constructed by the program's students in the Rosedale community. The previous three Rosedale homes are located at: 3914 Lloyd St. (2007), 750 Shawnee Road (2005), and 3908 Lloyd St. (2004).
