Summer Planning and Programs
Summer
is coming and RDA is ready to start the season right!
.
Here's
a run down of some of the summer activities in Rosedale:
- Volunteer
projects – A variety of volunteer projects will be taking
place. Every summer RDA organizes work projects to keep the community
looking good..
- Bike
Rodeo – on May 8 a bike rodeo will be held to encourage
kids to ride their bikes and teach children safe bicycling practices.
The rodeo will last from 10-12 pm and will be located at the University
of Kansas Medical Center's off-site parking lot located between
35 th and 38 th Streets and Booth/Springfield, near Rosedale Middle
School.
- Rosedale
Ridge after school youth program – Phoenix Family Housing,
KC Urban Youth and RDA are working together to develop a summer
program with around 15 elementary age youth from the Rosedale
Ridge apartments. The program will involve literacy work, gardening,
field trips, physical education and more.
- Rosedale
Farmers Market: The Healthy Kids Initiative is beginning
a farmers market in Rosedale starting May 16. The market will
be located at the Southwest Family Health Center and will run
throughout the summer Sunday's from 12 to 4 pm. Many local farmers
and gardeners will be selling their goods and activities for kids

- Summer
Youth Employment – RDA will once again be providing Rosedale
youth the opportunity to gain real employment experience. The
program fits youth's interests with a job. The youth will work
and be paid and gain valuable experience.
- Freedom
School: The Rainbow Mennonite CDF Freedom School will
be on again this summer. The program goes for 6 week in June and
July, Monday Through Friday from 8 am to 3:30 pm. The program
costs $125 dollars per child with the possibility of scholarships.
