Rosedale
Ridge Summer Programming Begins
On
Monday's and Tuesday's this summer between 10 and 15 students will
gathering at the Rosedale Ridge community center for summer programming.
Led by Diane Richardson of Phoenix Family Housing and assisted by
Jordan Penner from RDA and Liz McClure of KC Urban Youth, the program
promises to be an enriching experience for the kids attending the
program.
Rosedale
Ridge is home to around kids under 18 years old. However the community
center at Rosedale Ridge reaches capacity with just around 15 kids.
The organizers of the program strive to provide the highest quality
program for these kids by having a good student to teacher ratio.
On
Monday's the program will include reading, outside activity, lessons
about bullying, lunch, sex education for some, gardening time and
some arts and crafts time. The program is also providing the kids
with book bags with which the kids will carry home a book every
week. Every child who reads a book and completes a book report will
receive a small prize for their efforts.
On
Tuesdays, the program will take the kids on field trips to various
places in Kansas City. These field trips will include trips to Loose
Park, the zoo, the Kaleidoscope program at the Crown Center, a tour
at the Nelson-Atkins Art Museum, the Kansas City Community Garden,
Summersplash and a trip to a movie.
If
you would like to help with this program, please contact Jordan
Penner at RDA: 913-677-5097.
